Bobby's gin: where west and east meet

A Dutch gin with a nod to the East, Bobby's gin from Schiedam. The distillate has the pure taste of eight vegetable ingredients and gives a fresh take on a timeless classic.

Schiedam: gin capital of the world

The history of this gin goes back to 1777. In Schiedam, the jenever capital of the world, a malt wine gin is distilled at distillery De Tweelingh. After shipment to the United Kingdom, the gin evolves into the London Dry Gin. In 1950 Bobby (Jacobus) comes to live in the Netherlands in the same Schiedam. He comes from Ambon, Indonesia and migrates in the Netherlands. The Dutch gin appeals to Bobby, although he very much misses the taste of home. Without knowing it himself, this is the basis for Bobby's gin: he creates his own gin with gin and Indonesian herbs and spices.

A spicy gin with traditional ingredients

It's 2012 when Bobby's grandson Sebastian discovers an old bottle in his mother's house. He is inspired by his grandfather's story, discovers that grandfather Bobby always made his own gin and travels to Schiedam. Together with master distiller Herman Jansen he starts to work on the recipe of grandfather Bobby. This results in a trendy gin of the present day. Of course he names the gin after his grandfather. Bobby's gin is a unique mix of west and east: Dutch genever and Indonesian spices. Traditional herbal ingredients make Bobby's gin a spicy gin. Bobby's Dry gin has a burst of citrus and herbs in the first sip and the aftertaste of peppers. The recipe uses lemongrass, cloves, fennel, cinnamon, cubeb peppers, coriander, juniper and rose hip. Especially the combination of juniper, rose hips and fennel provides the balance between west and east.

The Bobby's gin jug nowadays

For the bottle, the manufacturer of Bobby's Dry gin has chosen a classic: the pitcher. The supplier wanted to get the old bottle back and they certainly succeeded. The shape and colors are as usual, but of course this jug has a modern interpretation. Although the jug is typically Dutch, here too a link to Indonesia has been chosen: a traditional Ikat pattern adorns the bottle. This means that a bottle of Bobby's Dry gin not only has a good content, but is also a feast for the eyes. Those who want to make a real Bobby's gin tonic are advised by the manufacturer to choose an Indian tonic. By first filling the glass with ice, adding Bobby's gin if desired and adding a nice tonic, a real Bobby's gin tonic is created. Add extra cloves and a slice of orange and you even get a Bobby's gin and tonic cocktail. Our range includes Fever Tree Indian tonic, a worldly tonic that is made to mix with the most beautiful gins. The combination with Bobby's gin is recommended.
